Railing drawings

Railing drawings and fabrication drawings for railings

CC Metall AB produces railing drawings, fabrication drawings and CAD documentation for railings in steel, stainless steel, aluminium, wood and combined materials.

The drawings can be used for quotations, material ordering, fabrication and installation. We help companies, property owners, housing associations, architects and private individuals throughout Sweden and the rest of Europe.

What is a railing drawing?

A railing drawing shows the design, dimensions, materials, post layout, handrails, infill panels, fixings and connections of the railing.

Clear drawing documentation reduces the risk of errors and makes it easier to calculate materials, request quotations, fabricate the railing and plan the installation.

What types of railings can we draw?

We produce drawings for, among other things:

  • stair railings

  • balcony, patio and terrace railings

  • French balcony railings

  • loft and mezzanine railings

  • industrial and safety railings

  • handrails and guardrails

  • railings for ramps and entrances

  • steel, wrought iron and wooden railings

  • railings with glass, sheet metal, mesh or balusters

  • custom-designed railings

The drawings can be produced for a single railing or for several numbered railing sections.

Stair railings and balcony railings

Stair railings are adapted to the slope of the stairs, steps, landings and connections. The documentation can show posts, handrails, infill panels, fixings, joints and transitions between sloping and horizontal sections.

For balconies, patios and terraces, the drawings can show railing lengths, corners, post layout, infill panels and fixings to the building.

Industrial and safety railings

We can also produce drawings for railings at work platforms, industrial stairs, walkways, ramps, machines and mezzanine floors.

The documentation can include, for example, posts, handrails, intermediate rails, toe boards, gates, base plates and connections.

What can be included?

Depending on the project, the delivery may include:

  • 3D model

  • assembly drawings

  • detail drawings

  • fabrication drawings

  • drawings of fixings

  • material list or cutting list

  • installation documentation

  • DXF files for laser cutting

Common delivery formats are PDF, DWG, DXF and STEP. The quotation states which drawings and file formats are included.

Railing drawings for fabrication

The fabrication drawings can show profiles, plate thicknesses, cutting dimensions, hole patterns, welds, bolted connections and separate components.

We can adapt the documentation to the workshop or railing manufacturer that will carry out the work.

DXF files can be produced for items such as base plates, brackets, fixing plates and decorative infill panels.

What information do we need?

To assess the project, we normally need:

  • a sketch with dimensions

  • photographs from the site

  • the length and height of the railing

  • desired material and design

  • dimensions of the stairs, balcony or terrace

  • information about the fixing substrate

  • existing drawings, if available

  • preferably inspiration images

The information does not need to be professionally drawn. A clear hand sketch with dimensions and photographs is often enough to get started.

How the process works

  1. You send sketches, dimensions, photographs and requirements.

  2. We review the information and let you know if anything needs to be completed.

  3. You receive a quotation with scope, price and delivery time.

  4. The railing is drawn in CAD and a proposal is sent for review.

  5. The finished drawings are delivered digitally.

Fixings and structural calculations

The fixings are adapted depending on whether the railing is to be fixed to, for example, steel, concrete, wood, stair treads, stringers or walls.

Structural calculations and dimensioning are not automatically included. They can be ordered separately when the railing’s load, location or area of use requires it.

Price for railing drawings

Railing drawings are normally charged at 875 SEK per hour including VAT.

The cost depends, among other things, on the length of the railing, number of sections, corners, level of detail and which file formats are to be delivered.

A fixed price can be provided for clearly defined projects after the information has been reviewed.

Site measuring, structural calculations and major changes are charged separately.

Delivery time

The delivery time depends on the scope of the project and how complete the information is.

The estimated delivery time is stated in the quotation and is normally calculated from the day complete dimensions and information have been received.

Frequently asked questions

Can you draw from a hand sketch or inspiration image?

Yes. We can often start with a hand sketch, photographs and the main dimensions.

Can the drawing be used for quotations?

Yes. The drawing can be used as a common basis when several manufacturers are asked to provide a quotation.

Can you draw railings with glass?

Yes. We can draw the railing posts, framework, brackets and glass placement. The final glass specification needs to be checked by the glass supplier.

Can the drawings be adapted to a specific workshop?

Yes. The documentation can be adapted to the workshop’s materials, profiles, machines and working methods.

Are structural strength calculations included?

No. Structural calculations and dimensioning are ordered separately when needed.

Order railing drawings

Send a short description of the railing together with sketches, photographs, dimensions and preferably inspiration images.

After we have reviewed the information, we will get back to you with details about scope, price and estimated delivery time.
