What are building permit drawings and when are they needed?
Building permit drawings are drawings that show what is to be built, changed or added to a property. They are used as documentation when applying for a building permit or submitting a notification to the municipality.
Building permit drawings may be needed for projects such as extensions, garages, carports, conservatories, facade changes, new doors or windows, storage buildings, balconies, terraces with roofs, or other changes that affect the appearance or function of a building.
A standard building permit documentation package may include a floor plan, facade drawing, section drawing and site plan. Which drawings are needed depends on the scope of the project and the municipality’s requirements.
